This home was created for a family of three and their beloved pets. The owners are passionate admirers of modernist design and architecture -especially the spirit of mid-century Californian villas. When they invited us to collaborate, we immediately knew that this would become one of the key directions in defining the visual language of the project. Although our main responsibility was the interior design, we were also involved in shaping the façade and selecting exterior materials, ensuring a seamless dialogue between the inside and the outside.
The material palette evokes the spirit of classic modernist interiors. In the entrance zone and kitchen, we introduced a distinctive ceramic mosaic floor that playfully catches and reflects light. Natural stone plays a leading role throughout - Taj Mahal quartzite, creamy travertine, green onyx, and Sakura marble - used from subtle detailing to full-height wall claddings. Color, texture, and organic veining define the atmosphere, with every element precisely designed and crafted by local stonemasons. The warmth of walnut wall paneling and light oak flooring balances the cool elegance of stone, adding calm and intimacy to the space. A striking counterpoint comes in the form of polished stainless steel - reflective and full of depth - appearing as a sculptural volume in the kitchen cabinetry and as ceiling panels on the lower ground floor, visually expanding the compact space.
At the heart of the home lies an open kitchen facing the garden, anchored by a long central island that becomes a stage for daily rituals, conversation, and gatherings. A dedicated coffee and wine corner lends the space a relaxed, domestic character. In the living area, a tall walnut bookshelf emphasizes the impressive height of the room, while iconic modernist pieces from the clients’ collection - such as the Wassily Chair, Marcel Breuer’s tubular steel seating, and an Eames lounge chair - engage naturally with the home’s architectural language.
Upstairs, we designed a private sanctuary for the owners - a bedroom with a panoramic sea view and an open bathroom, where a freestanding bathtub aligns with the window, inviting one to immerse in light and the surrounding greenery. The children’s room is wrapped in soft tones of straw oak, while their bathroom features gentle Sakura marble. This project is a dialogue between timeless design and contemporary living - a story about a home where light, proportion, and detail find their shared rhythm: calm, enduring, and profoundly human.
